Clever Mamma Profile: Reverie Coaching

We're state-hopping over to South Australia this week to introduce you to Mumpreneur coach Kathryn Hocking from Reverie Coaching. If you've ever dreamed about turning your utmost dreams into an amazing reality, Kathryn is THE mum in biz to call. Based in the gorgeous seaside town of Semaphore, together with hubby, gorgeous little Ava and their affection-seeking cat, Reverie Coaching is a realisation of her "desire to inspire, motivate and assist mums, through coaching, to establish their dream business and in turn become more passionate about their lives." I hope you enjoy finding out a bit more about this mum in business' journey as much as I did.

 1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business... My name is Kathryn and I live in Semaphore, South Australia by the beach with my husband and toddler Ava. Reverie Coaching is dedicated to coaching and mentoring Mumpreneurs to create and grow their dream Mumpreneur business. I do this through one-on-one coaching, affordable online e-courses and masterminds, free profiling on my blog and lots of free tips through my newsletter.

2. How did your business begin?
I returned to working after maternity leave feeling a distinct lack of passion about my job. I also experienced just how hard balancing a full-time corporate role and a family was and I thought there has to be a better way. Many of my friends were struggling with the same issues and came to me for help and advice regarding this transition back to work and balancing work and family life.

I realised there must be a better way to work and be a mum, and that many mums would need help creating their own Mumpreneur business. And from this Reverie Coaching was born.

Since then to compliment my extensive corporate and commercial experience I have completed nationally recognised Life Coaching, Small Business Management and Training & Assessment qualifications and completed some internationally recognised online business and personal development courses. I am continually learning and investing in my business and passing this knowledge on to my clients.

3. The bits I love... I love those ‘ah-ha’ moments when my clients reach clarity on their dream business idea or how to grow their business. I love watching a client walk in with a defeated look on their face and leave feeling inspired, passionate and empowered!

I love working from my beautiful home doing what I am passionate about and knowing I am creating a better life for my family.

4. The bits I not-so-love... It’s crazy but I pretty much love everything about my business! It can be challenging to not have the security of a guaranteed income from the business but I find that challenges and pushes me to achieve more.

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas?
Finding a network or mastermind of other Mumpreneurs is key. Being a Mumpreneur can be isolating so you need a posse of like-minded women supporting and inspiring you! I have created this for my clients through my e-courses and they love it and so do I.

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake??? Coffee all the way, my choice is a Skim Flat White and I can be tempted with cake, especially at my favourite café at Semaphore.

Thanks so much for taking some time out at the Clever Mamma blog Kathryn. Now I know you're all wanting to contact Reverie Coaching asap, so find the full and fabulous contact details here at the Clever Mamma Directory, and take the first step to turn your Mumpreneur dreams into a reality!

Clever Mamma Profile: Invisible Business Solutions

This week we head north to the Gold Coast and have a chat with the lovely Helen Goodman from Invisible Business Solutions. Helen works alongside her hubby to provide biz mums with the services they need for success. Be sure to check out their new "School Hours Business Mums Networking Group" too. Such a great networking opportunity, I only wished I lived closer... although a trip to the Gold Coast does sound tempting!

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business… I am a wife, and mother to two boys, who love their footy (massive Titans fans) and the beach! My husband and I have created Invisible Business Solutions to provide business mums with the services they need. We focus on workshops for business mums that are innovative, interactive and fun! And give you the recipe for success to take away! We also offer consultancy in business analysis, the best graphic design solutions to build your brand, print management to ensure you get quality print material at a price you can afford, and eBrochures (which make your brochures interactive!). Our first "live" workshops are on the Gold Coast in January & February so we are booking now to make business mums 2013 the best year.

2. How did your business begin? We started Invisible Business Solutions to offer our services to business mums. We moved to the Gold Coast and it became impossible for me to commute to my part time job, which I had begun to dislike for a great many reasons, not least of which that we felt we had more to offer. I wanted to go out there and share 20 years of management accounting and business analysis knowledge, and Paul has the Creative talent to cost effectively build a great brand for business mums. So Invisible Business Solutions was born! Why Invisible Business Solutions? We are invisible to your clients, we offer the services and experiences that make your business succeed. Its what we add... that you take away!

3. The bits I love… We have it covered… I love the "numbers" things and Paul is the creative - together we make a great team!

4. The bits I not-so-love… Being in business is a long road, and can be challenging as well as rewarding. But now we have the business we want, there are not so many bits not to love. Everything is a step towards our goals!

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas? Be confident in yourselves, we can make a valuable contribution, but lets not apologise for our mummy status and the fact that we choose to balance our work aspirations with our family lives. We only hold our children for such a short time, they should be enjoyed and given the attention they deserve! I also think it's important to recognise when we need help in an area, we seek out an expert and get the help we need (and the knowledge too).

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake??? Having grown up in England and migrated to Australia almost 10 years ago now, I would have to say that I am a Devonshire Tea lady! But Devonshire teas are for the afternoons! In the mornings I am very happy with coffee!

Helen, it's been an absolute pleasure getting to know you and your fabulous biz better. Be sure to let me know when your networking groups come down to Melbourne as I will be first on the list! Now loyal readers, you can find Helen's direct contact details here on her listing on the Clever Mamma business mum directory and be sure to find her on Facebook and Twitter too (deets on her website). Do you and your biz a favour and make 2013 the year your business moves forward with Invisible Business Solutions. Oh, and be sure to let her know that Clever Mamma sent you :)

Clever Mamma Profile: BabyButton

Our very first Clever Mamma Profile for 2013 is the super sweet Janell from Babybutton. I met Janell over a year ago in my Business Mum's Club and we have been following each others biz since, and now I am so excited to have her and her awesome handmade mummy-products on the CM site (you MUST check out her nappy wallets!).

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business... My name is Janell, I’m mother to Addison who is 2 years old and I am expecting my second child in May 2013. My business is Babybutton, a range of handmade products to assist new mums in their motherhood journey, such as breastfeeding/burb cloths, larger absorb bibs, nappy wallets and baby tag-a-long blankets.

2. How did your business begin? I love being a mother, and have found my journey to motherhood has been beautiful, life-enhancing and taught me lots of lessons I was completely unprepared for. My business Babybutton was born after experiencing several situations using my breastfeeding cover and finding the high demand from other women to have such an item. I started by word of mouth and grew from there. Through my experiences and in talking to other mums, I found myself with a desire to create an entire range of handmade products that meet our needs. Some of my main design ranges have been bibs that are larger, using more absorbent and durable fabrics, and breastfeeding/burb cloths that are soft washable and using fashionable fabrics.

3. The bits I love... I love seeing my new concepts come to fruition. And more importantly, I love meeting new mums and sharing stories.

4. The bits I not-so-love... Like most business owners, my accounts seem to be on the bottom of the to-do list each day and sourcing new stockists for my product range.

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas? Follow your dream, don’t give up on yourself. There are so many wonderful network groups and services that will help you. The community of business mums is amazing, and the support we all offer each other is amazing.

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake??? I am more of a coffee girl and I do love cake with anything!

Thanks for taking some time out with us Janell, and best of luck with bubs number 2. We can't wait to hear if Addi has a little brother or a little sister!

Now I know you would like to take a closer look at the Babybutton range for yourself or as a very thoughtful gift for a loved one. You can find Janell's web details here on the Clever Mamma directory and please do let her know that Clever Mamma sent you.

Clever Mamma Profile: Vivacity Consulting

It gives me great pleasure this week to introduce you to a business mum who is personally helping this Clever Mamma move forward with her biz in 2013. It's mum of two, Fiona Redding from Vivacity Consulting! I could go on and on about Fiona's fab consulting and mentoring biz, but I'll let the lovely lady explain it herself below... And be sure to read on as Fiona has a very special deal for the months of December and January!

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business... Vivacity Consulting offers business consulting and mentoring that is specifically targeted to help women in business, wherever they are in their business journey and whatever their level of business management skill and experience.

I launched the business in 2012, with the catalyst being a desire to create a challenging, innovative and rewarding working environment (and a scalable business) that was flexible around the needs of my young family.

2. How did your business begin? After months of fruitless searching for a good, meaningful part-time job, I realised that I needed to think more strategically and laterally about what I could do for work. It took months of research & planning to work out exactly how my background in strategic & business planning, HR, organisational development & change, and project management would translate into a business - and how I could help other mums set up and run their own successful businesses. It has been an amazing adventure.

3. The bits I love... The intellectual freedom, being my own boss, the financial rewards, working with and learning from other awesome & inspiring business owners, and the ability to dream big and make it happen!

4. The bits I not-so-love... Admin & financials

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas? Do what you love and love what you do, and then do it really well.

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake???
Coffee and cake.

So go on, do yourself and your mum business a favour and check out Fiona at Vivacity Consulting. If you are serious about moving forward I'd highly recommend it.

And in those famous words... "But wait there's more!". Fiona is offering a very special deal for Dec 2012/Jan 2013.

Clever Mamma Profile: First Step Virtual Assistant

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to brand new Clever Mamma, Anne Clark from First Step Virtual Assistant. Anne is keeping busy (but I'm hoping she is getting some R&R too) with Master 2 PLUS a new bub on the way in February. Based in Melbourne, Anne is able to support biz mums Australia-wide with social media, admin and project management plus lots more. Anyone else spending way too much time on social media? You know who to call!

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business... My name is Anne Clark, I worked as a Corporate PA/Office Manager for 20 years before becoming a first time mum.  I am expecting my second child in early 2013, which is very exciting.

First Step Virtual Assistant is a support service for businesses.  I provide social media support, administration support, project management, electronic newsletters and lots more.

2. How did your business begin? First Step Virtual Assistant was established with the desire for me to be able to achieve a dream which is running my own business, be able to be at home with my children and continue to do what I love doing.

3. The bits I love... I love working with my clients, I’m very lucky as they are wonderful.  I love learning about their industries.  I take it upon myself to keep up to date on technology and services so that anything that can benefit my clients in the services I provide I can pass on to them.

4. The bits I not-so-love... The thing I don’t love is the constant ‘spam’ emails I get bombarded with and the hoax service seekers I get.  Surely they have better things to do.

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas? When trying to grow your business, utilise the free social media tools around such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+ and LinkedIn to attract your audience.  Take the time to understand your business direction/target audience and those social media tools.  It is important to try and get your audience onto your own database, you can’t solely rely on the social media platform because if it was gone tomorrow, you would have lost your database of potential clients and have to start all over again.

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake??? These days I definitely prefer my coffee and cake!

Thanks so much Anne for letting us know your biz story. Stay tuned for a bubs update early next year, but in the meantime do pop past Anne's listing on the CM directory for full contact details and see how First Step Virtual Assistant can support you and your business. Isn't it time to work "on" your business and not "in" it?

Clever Mamma Profile: Healthy Personal Finances

Our latest Clever Mamma is the fabulous and super-lovely Stacey Price. Stacey, together with hubby Richard run Healthy Personal Finances. Based in the North West of Melbourne and with two young boys to keep them busy, they are able to combine both their professional skills and personal experiences to provide clients with solutions to achieve lifestyle and financial goals. Isn't that a breath of fresh air - A finance team able to relate and understand the financial challenges us families face!

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business... My hubby and I started our business so that I could spend more time at home with our two lovely boys. I am a qualified accountant and hubby a qualified book keeper. We are passionate about sharing our financial knowledge and helping people become in control of their financial future. To be able to plan for holidays, weddings, retirement, buying a house, interest rate changes without fear and understanding how small changes can make a big impact.

2. How did your business begin? Our business started off by producing individual cash management plans for ourselves to understand where all our money went and to help me save for our wedding. We then created a joint cash flow for our family, which includes our son’s bank accounts, the mortgage and our own personal accounts. We monitor our money each week of the year. We were then offering our plan to others and thought – we should be in business!

3. The bits I love... Seeing the smile on people’s faces when they realise they can achieve their dreams. Whether it be save for an overseas holiday, their first house, their children’s school fees or a comfortable retirement. Most of what we do is educate people and help them understand what can be achieved without making huge sacrifices.

4. The bits I not-so-love... At the end of the day, we can guide people in the right direction, but we have no control over if they choose to follow the plans we create. People’s lifestyle and situations can change in an instant which effects what we have created so at times we need to start again from scratch.

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas? People tell me not to work with family, but for us it works. It is great to bounce ideas off each other and we often see things from different perspectives. Sometimes a fresh approach is what is needed, and that is what we try to give our clients. Sometimes the answer is right in front of you, but you are too close to see it.

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake??? Can I have both...but with a hot chocolate instead of coffee??

Thanks for spending some time with us Stacey, and letting us get to know you and your finance biz a little better :) So if you need help with budgeting, cash flow, book keeping or financial planning you know where to go! Healthy Personal Finances' full contact details can be found here on the Clever Mamma directory... What are you waiting for? Go check them out :)

Clever Mamma Profile: Recipes 4 Success, Independent Consultant and Group Leader for The Chef's Toolbox

All has been busy at Clever Mamma HQ but I'm delighted to be back on the CM-Profile-Train and have a fabulous mum in biz for you all to meet. This week I have the pleasure of introducing you to Clever Mamma Josie Campese, from Recipes 4 Success, an Independent Consultant and Group Leader for The Chef's Toolbox. Based in the north western suburbs of Melbourne, Josie is a passionate and proud business mum who loves what she does!

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business...
I am a mum of a sixteen year old daughter. Almost 6 years ago I went along to a cooking party, mainly because I was promised food and wine! I had a great, fun afternoon but most of all I was so impressed with the obvious difference good quality cookware, knives and bake ware can make to the results I get in the kitchen. I learned to make a fabulous risotto without stirring and also yummy sticky date puddings, all in about 30 minutes

2. How did your business begin? I joined because it was a fun way to earn some extra money and I still had the time to spend with my daughter and have the time to be involved with her at school.

3. The bits I love... The social interaction with guests at my parties, the money to spend on family holidays, rewards like the overseas and national travel - I have been away on fully paid trips with The Chefs Toolbox every year and especially the rewards like knowing that I help other women to have the benefits of being mums at home with their kids, while developing their own home based businesses and contributing to the family income while they gain things like confidence and independence.

4. The bits I not-so-love... The perception that I am available 24hrs a day because I work from home.

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas? Set and diarise your work time, social time and family time and stick with it.

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake??? Devonshire tea.

Thanks for stopping by the Clever Mamma blog Josie! It's been great getting to know you and your business a little better. If you would like to find out more about Josie and her fabulous business, be sure to sneak a peak at the listing on the CM Directory. You will find more details plus a link to Josie's website. What are you waiting for? Go on... hop to it!

Clever Mamma Profile: Bluewood Studio

This week I have the pleasure of introducing you to Clever Mamma Heidi Helyard from Bluewood Studio. Based in the northern suburbs of Sydney, Heidi is a super-talented Graphic Designer who manages her business with two gorgeous littlies to keep her company.

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business...
I am a graphic designer with over 13 years experience, graduated with a Bachelor Degree (1st class hons) from UNSW and have worked in cultural institutions as well as corporate studios. I specialise in print design, including logo, stationery, brochure, document and book design. I am obsessed with typography and fonts.

2. How did your business begin?
It began a little over 8 years ago when I started to get hammered in the corporate sector. It was brutal. I was about to get married and had my eye on the prize of wanting children and really wanted to work from home. I went from the full-on corporate job to a magazine job which was terrible, so three days out from my wedding, I quit with the intention of going freelance through some agencies while I built up my client base. I ended up not having to do on-site freelancing as I obtained some clients quite quickly. This was in 2003. My daughter was born in 2007 and my son was born in 2009.

3. The bits I love...
Not having to put up with other annoying people in an office (can you tell I've worked with some doozies?). Working around the kids and not having to put them in daycare super early in their lives.

4. The bits I not-so-love...
When clients don’t understand about being flexible and hearing kids in the background. Fortunately not too many of those. When I REALLY want/need to get on with work and I can’t because of the kids.

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas?
Don’t be afraid or feel guilty about getting help with the kids. I have done a mix of in-house babysitter/nanny, Family Day Care (even just half a day!) and now pre-school with my daughter. If you are working you usually need help with the kids!

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake???
Coffee (for the wake up) and cake (for the sugar).

Thanks for stopping by the Clever Mamma blog Heidi! It's been great getting to know you and your business a little better. If you would like to find out more about Bluewood Studio, be sure to sneak a peak at the listing on the CM Directory. You will find more details plus a link to Heidi's website where you can view her amazing folio and also download a free 'Pigment to Pantone' 2012 calendar. What are you waiting for, go on... hop to it!

Clever Mamma Profile: Diamondlites (an independent PartyLite business)

This week we have another fabulous Clever Mamma in biz for you all to meet. It's Kim Wood from Diamondlites, an independent PartyLite business specialising in scented candles and exclusive decor.

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business...
PartyLite and I met in 2003 via a lot of recommendations form a very dear friend to truly have a look at what PartyLite had to offer.. Once I had tried the candles, I was in love with the smokeless burning, the awesome fragrances and the value for money burning results... there was nothing left of anything once completely burnt!! I was sold!! - it was awesome to come home, snuggle up with a cuppa, enjoy the fragrances and soothing candle light every night without having to clean up dripped wax or dig wicks out of pillars!

2. How did your business begin? I moved down from Brisbane in 2002 and found myself in a dreadful spot of being utterly "broke" with an out of work husband, 2 teens and 2 cats to feed. A year later after trying the candles and loving them a girlfriend suggested I join the company to make extra money rather than pursue an additional job. As I was already working 60 hours for less than $600 in my pocket and had just been offered the option of working an additional 12 - 14 hours in a hotel to boost our finances - I was happy to consider opening a PartyLite Account in addition to what I was currently doing, but could not afford to either "pay or pay back" any type of "kit"! I was delighted to learn that there was no investment or "payback" and I could take Partylite on a test run! So I approached 6 people to be Hostesses in exchange for free candles and/or accessories of their choice. I was really nervous but it turned out to be the best decision I had ever made. By doing 2 shows (3 hours each) per week over 3 weeks, I had earned more than $800 and I was in heaven - we had more money for less effort and time away and I made new friends!

3. The bits I love... I love the "gifts" of the heart that PartyLite brings!! I was able to quit my 60 hours a week and continue my PartyLite career around my family commitments, share the gift I had been offered and taking people with me on a journey that has delighted, uplifted and provided many other Mums with income, recognition, growth and rewards like bonus payments, free product and international "free" holidays WITHOUT taking the focus off the family!!

4. The bits I not-so-love... I honestly cannot think of any.

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas? Before I looked at PartyLite, I was thinking of taking on another job with no flexibility, adding another 15 hours a week out of the home away from my family, for less money again was not an ideal. I discovered that being a "Clever Mamma" surrounded the needs of my family whilst having the flexibility and control of my working hours! It was easy to invest a little time each week to create less "away time" and still earn a full time income with very part time hours in a fun and rewarding atmosphere, doing something I loved and being able to "pay it forward" to other "Clever Mamma's", so they could enjoy the same rewards.

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake??? Both! They are equally lovely shared with someone who is wanting to "take control" of work, income and family needs.

Thanks for stopping by the Clever Mamma Blog Kim. It's been great getting to know you and your business better! To find out how to contact Diamondlites, just sneak a peak at the listing on the Clever Mamma Directory, where you'll find more info, a link to the website and direct contact details. Another great business run by a mum! Stay tuned for even more amazing mums and their businesses!

Clever Mamma Profile: DCD

Our fabulous Clever Mamma this week is the very talented Dannie Cincotta from DCD. Based in Melbourne and mum to a beautiful boy, Dannie can help provide creative and affordable design solutions for your business and personal needs. From corporate branding to novelty designs and canvas art - DCD has it covered!

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business... I come from a creative family and have always had a pen/brush/mouse in hand, so it was only natural that I got into design. I am married to a brilliant man and have a 19 month old son who melts my heart everyday (when I'm not pulling my hair out, haha). I am a qualified graphic artist and after having worked in various types of studios over the years, I decided to start DCD.

2. How did your business begin? I was hesitant at going at it alone at first, always asking myself 'what if?' But most of my family are self employed and I knew it was right for me. When I fell pregnant, I realised I wanted to always be available for my family and spend as much time as I could with my son, so working from home allowed me to have the best of both worlds, to do what I love and be a full time Mum too. I prepared everything for DCD during my pregnancy, so that I could jump straight into work soon as I was ready. When my son was 3 months old, my Hubby found a couple of design jobs for me, which turned into a handful. So, with one hand rocking the bassinet, the other on the mouse... DCD was up and running and with great thanks to a supportive and understanding Hubby!

Having a home studio is perfect for DCD as I have 24/7 access to work, so clients know I can get to anything urgent, quickly. I can get dinner ready while making PDFs and my son knows I'm always around for him. Majority of jobs are branding (logos, stationery, promo material), invitations and photo restoration. Canvas art is becoming quite popular too now, they make great gifts for family and friends.

3. The bits I love... The freedom of working from home and multi-tasking, own hours and schedule, knowing that I'm not just a mum, that I'm contributing to society, being able to help clients and give them old fashioned service.

4. The bits I not-so-love... Paper work!, clients that take their time to pay, sometimes having to start work after midnight.

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas? Don't leave for tomorrow, what you can do today... I live by it!

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake??? Coffee and chocolate cake, and coffee, and coffee...

So for any help with your graphic design needs Dannie is the one to call! You can find her details on the DCD listing on the Clever Mamma directory as well as further info about her services. Thanks for spending some time with us Dannie and letting us get to know you and your business a little better :)

Clever Mamma Profile: The Edge Coaching

This week say a big Clever Mamma hello to the lovely Debbie Marks from The Edge Coaching! Based in Melbourne's south eastern suburbs, Debbie's business helps mums create a lifestyle that works for them.... plus even more! Keep reading to see how this clever mamma can help you.

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business... Hi, I'm Debbie and I'm a Mum of 2 little boys. I also run The Edge Coaching which specialises in helping empower Mums to create a lifestyle that works FOR THEM, not just works. I provide Mums with the time and head space to think about what they really want in life and work with them to set goals, break down obstacles and turn their dreams into reality. My clients range from Mumprenuers trying to balance it all, Working Mums and Mums who have lost their mojo after having kids and want to find it again! I work with individual clients and I also run lunchtime and day long workshops for organisations based around the Programme I've written to help support Working Mums in their pursuit of career and family.

2. How did your business begin? My business started after I realised that working as an IT Project Manager was not fulfilling my values as a Mum and Professional. I retrained as a Business Coach and then realised that there wasn't enough support out there for Mums so have specialised in an area close to my heart and many others!

3. The bits I love...
I love being able to do the Kinder morning teas without feeling guilty, I love the creativity that my job now entails when I'm writing a programme or creating an exercise for a client. I love being passionate about what I do and helping Mums realise they can do it all, it just sometimes needs tweaking!

4. The bits I not-so-love... Doing the accounting stuff!

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas?
Ride the ups and downs of being a Mumprenuer, remember why you chose this lifestyle in the first place.

6. Now the important stuff, Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake? Have to say Devonshire Tea after living in the UK for a number of years and having some divine ones there!

Thanks Debbie. It's been great getting to know you and your business a little better. To personally say hi to The Edge Coaching head over to the listing on the Clever Mamma Directory. You'll find more information and even some direct contact details.

Clever Mamma Profile: Outsource Virtual Assistant

This week I'd like to introduce you to business mum Sandra Wright from Outsource Virtual Assistant. Based North West of Melbourne, Sandra is kept on her toes with three beautiful kids aged 13, 11 and an almost 2 year old, running a home based VA business PLUS she has just launched a new networking business called Savvy Mums Business... sounds perfect for the Clever Mamma community!

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business...
My name is Sandra and I am a multi-tasking mum of three beautiful children. I have two boys aged 13 and 11 and a 19 month old daughter. I am running a home based business as a Virtual Assistant. But I am not any Virtual Assistant - I tailor my services around the client’s needs and offer flexible and personal service to them. I find this keeps the loyalty both ways and I end up forming not only a business relationship with them but also I end up being someone they can rely at on any time; whenever they need it to help them get through their work load. As well as this, I also save them time and money when they outsource the work to me.

2. How did your business begin? I have always worked full time, even when I had my two boys, and missed out on so much time being with them. When I was pregnant with Alana, I wanted to try and work out a way that I could be at home more and be there for all three. So I came up with the idea of being a Virtual Assistant and starting up my own business. After my daughter was born, I pretty soon started researching and setting up my business and within 3 months, landed my first client. And as they say, the rest is history, as I then became more motivated and determined to grow and succeed in my business. And I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the support of my husband and children and family. I now want to grow my business to the stage where I can help other mums do what I do and give them the opportunity to work from home as well. This is something I am very passionate about and determined to succeed in.

3. The bits I love... I love the balancing of work/home life at home and now being able to be there for my children, as well as the flexibility of working from home. In regards to business, I love watching my business grow all the time and I love going to networking events to help promote my business and meet like minded business people. That’s why I think this site is such a great thing.

4. The bits I not-so-love... I can honestly say there are no bits I not-so-love. I am enjoying every bit of juggling family life and growing a business.

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas? Don’t lose focus and motivation. Starting a small business is not easy and takes up a lot of time, but it is worth it! Also, I highly recommend networking – take it from me it helps your knowledge and business.

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake??? Well, I love both scones and cake, but only drink tea and hot chocolate.

Thanks so much Sandra for popping in and letting us all get to know you and your business better. To find out even more about how Outsource Virtual Assistant can assist with your admin needs, and tailor a solution that's perfect for you, check out the listing on the Clever Mamma Directory
. And if you're in Melbourne be sure to check out Sandra's latest venture Savvy Mum's Business, a networking event for business mums where kids are welcome! Find details here on the Clever Mamma Blog. Be quick as bookings close this week!

Clever Mamma Profile: get SET 4 IT

This week say a big Clever Mamma hello to Sally Evans from get SET 4 IT. Based in North Lakes in Brisbane, this busy mum of two little cuties, offers training in Microsoft Office and Social Media plus even more!

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business... I’m Sally Evans and I’d love to help you become more competent and yes, more confident in your computer usage. Perhaps you’ve been dying to get into social media but you’ve heard all the horror stories about viruses and identity theft. Or maybe you’re tired of feeling lost and unsure of yourself when you try to perform any functions beyond the very basic in Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint. You might want to do away with the whole learning caper and have documents created for you... job done! Whatever your need, if it has to do with social media, Microsoft Office or browsing the Internet, I’d be happy to help!

2. How did your business begin? I established get SET 4 IT in July 2011. SET stands for ‘Sally Evans Training’ which means there is a part of me in the brand! The reason I started the business was that after months of searching for a part-time job, I realised that I could not find a job that also let me be a real mum to my two pre-schoolers. So I decided to create myself a job where I could do what I have a passion for (sharing my knowledge) and also look after my two beautiful children Rhys, 4.5 years and Sofia, 2 years.

3. The bits I love... I am really still setting up and hope to gain my first client very soon. So far have loved creating my logo and seeing my website come together.

4. The bits I not-so-love... All the money I have spent without any returns yet!!! Also hate the sales side but without that I would have no business.

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas? I don’t really have any words of wisdom yet but in my past experience of juggling work and motherhood, its all about setting and keeping your priorities. My priority is the welfare of my family first then my business. This also means being very organised and using sleep or down time to catch up with my business activities.

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake??? Can I have both??

Thanks for stopping by the Clever Mamma Blog Sally! It's been great getting to know you and your business a little better. For even more information on how Sally can help you plus direct contact details, head on over to the get SET 4 IT listing on the Clever Mamma Directory.

Clever Mamma Profile: Search Engine Academy

This week's Clever Mamma mum in business spotlight is Sue Cooper from Search Engine Academy. Based in Brisbane, Sue is able to help you and your business master the art of search engine optimisation (SEO) and social media marketing through her personalised hands-on workshops.

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business...
Single parent of 2 girls, 20 and 15. My business had to learn to stand on it’s own two feet very quickly when I became the sole money earner, and I was determined not to go and get a job! Search Engine Academy teaches SEO techniques to website owners/managers, so they can get high visibility among the search engines and drive qualified traffic to their business.

2. How did your business begin? I’ve been in the SEO field for nearly 10 years, and was continually attending conferences and events where the main aim was to tell everyone “it’s too hard, so we can do it for you”. SEO is not difficult and there is no magical answers – the difficult part is knowing who to listen to. Anyway, in 2009 I approached a US based training facility (which I had been honing my skills through for years) and it just so happened that they were looking for an associated in Australia. And Bob’s your uncle, I came on board with Search Engine Academy and have not worked a day since – I love what I do and get a total thrill every time I see or hear about the success of past students.

3. The bits I love... Is everything too broad? We teach all over Australia and I love travelling, especially if the kids can come too. And I love it when students get excited, or the lightbulb turns on over a technique they’d never heard or thought about.

4. The bits I not-so-love... The paperwork – need to outsource! (Ed: We have some fab Clever Mamma VAs who would love to help you out!)

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas? Businesses too often think of SEO as an after-thought in their web development process. In fact it should be your first consideration and can save a lot of wasted time, money and effort.

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake??? That one’s easy... coffee and cake!!

Thanks for stopping by the Clever Mamma Blog Sue! It's been great getting to know you and your business a little better. For more information and direct contact details head on over to the Search Engine Academy listing on the Clever Mamma Directory. And be sure to let Sue know that Clever Mamma sent you!

Clever Mamma Profile: Zenith Admin

Our fabulous Clever Mamma this week is Rebecca Caesar from Zenith Admin. Based in Queensland and a mum of a beautiful boy, Rebecca can help turn chaos into calm in your business... I think we all need a bit of help with that one!

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business... I am a married mother of an 8 year old boy. My background is in state government, providing administration, Human Resource and Finance support for teams of up to 200 officers and managers. My strengths are self-motivation, a high level of attention to detail, fast learning and an enthusiasm to provide a high level of service. My business is totally managed online, so I can work for anyone, anywhere in the world!

2. How did your business begin? The idea formed from a combination of several factors...firstly, I wanted to create a better work/life balance - I was away from the house for around 11 hours a day, travelling 1 1/4 hours each way, and my son was in before - and after - school care for the same! The housework, good nutritious dinners and time with my son went begging... and I didn't want to settle for that. Flexibility to work around my family commitments and working from home were key. Secondly, I was feeling a strong need to work doing something that I enjoyed, which meant moving away from the work I was currently doing... Thirdly, I consistently saw business people struggle with piles of admin paperwork and tasks that they either didn't have time to do or didn't have the skill to do... and thus Zenith Admin was born!

3. The bits I love... Assisting businesses to reduce their 'To Do' Lists is extremely satisfying. The flexibility of hiring Zenith Admin is evident - they don't need to supply a desk, computer or office space; they don't need to do any payroll (other than paying the invoice), taxation, superannuation, Workplace Health & Safety, Human Resources; they only need to hire me when there is work done, as opposed to hiring a full-time admin that they have to find work for in the slow times (and still pay them!). In addition to that, with my many skills comes a variety of tasks that keep me interested. One client may have me proofreading their website, whilst another has me researching a topic on the Internet. Yet another has me entering information from Google Docs into an online database, and still another has me entering hardcopy data into Excel with formulas! Never boring!

4. The bits I not-so-love... With many clients comes 'plate-spinning'! I have to be attentive and on top of my game to schedule different clients and not get confused. In saying that, it's gone well so far!

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas? Hmmm. I would say, keep your eyes and ears open to a need that is not being met in your community. That is the way to prosper! Also, the old adage, do something you love! Motivation and hard work are the keys to success, and have integrity in all your actions.

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake??? Hmmm. Not really either...? Could I compromise with a cup of tea and a cupcake?

So for any help with your business admin needs, from website maintenance to database creation to proofreading, Rebecca is the one to call! You can find all her details on the Zenith Admin listing on the Clever Mamma directory as well as further info about her services. Thanks for spending some time with us Rebecca and letting us get to know you a little better :)

Clever Mamma Profile: Zenkai, Complete Recovery of Health

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to Dr Danielle Slade from Zenkai, Complete Recovery of Health this week. Danielle operates her business from the picturesque town of Woodend in Victoria (home of some yummy vanilla slice!) and is kept busy with her alternative medicine business and two absolutely gorgeous littlies!

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business...
Mother. Wife. Acupuncturist. Wants to learn how to make Meatloaf, but will never eat it.

2. How did your business begin? As a diabetic, diagnosed age 3, my mum used to take me to alternative therapists - particularly naturopaths. I saw results and alternative healing at a young age and liked it. I've always had an interest in alternative medicine, and feel drawn to it. I chose TCM in particular because I had an interest in it, in the theories and traditions passed through the ages, and because I felt it was a highly regarded profession within the field of traditional healing.

It first began with a NEIS grant, after graduating from University, the business operated for 13 years [whilst having a major car accident, getting married, and giving birth to my 2 children], Recently I won the Powercor-Young Business Person of The Year 2011 sponsored by Telstra.

3. The bits I love... I truly love it all. I feel immense fulfillment in all aspects of my work. Just a couple of weeks ago I had a surprise visit from a couple I assisted in achieving natural fertility and had the opportunity to meet their little miracle… It was all worth it.

4. The bits I not-so-love... The long days can be a bit hard, especially for my two children Monet 2 & Diesel 5yrs. Some days my last appointment isn’t until 9pm and I miss our family meal times, but luckily I have my supportive husband Steve, who often takes on both roles.

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas? I get my inspiration from reading about other mammas achievements and journeys. So keep sharing your stories and inspire those who listen.

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake??? Coffee (and lots of it) and Cake. My clients spoil me terribly with deliveries of coffee & cake from our village café. Just another great perk.

If you would like to find out how Danielle can help you with alternative medicine in: Women's Health, Preconception Care, Infertility & IVF support, Pregnancy Care, Post Natal Care, General Health & Wellbeing and Men's and Children's Health
, simply check out the Zenkai listing on the Clever Mamma Directory for direct contact details. Thanks for stopping by Danielle, we always love meeting our talented Clever Mamma business mums!

Clever Mamma Profile: Buttercup Ink

This week we have another fabulous Clever Mamma in biz for you all to meet. It's Vari Longmuir from Buttercup Ink, a boutique design and stationery business located in Melbourne. With a beautiful little 2 year old and another on the way this talented Scotland-born mamma now calls Australia home.

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business...
I'm Vari - owner of Buttercup Ink, my Melbourne based boutique design and stationery studio. As far back as I can remember, I've always had a love of paper and design. My first school report card, aged 5 said Vari loves to draw and colour-in! And so graphic design was a clear career choice. After university, I worked in different areas of the graphic design industry, from national publications to in-house positions, and decided in 2010, after moving from my hometown of Glasgow, Scotland to Melbourne a few years previous, to branch out and set up my own design and stationery studio. Buttercup Ink produces art prints, organisational stationery and note cards for the family and home. My designs have a clean, contemporary aesthetic with a strong focus on beautiful typography. All products are designed, printed and finished in my home studio. Buttercup Ink also creates custom wedding and event stationery as well as corporate branding and design.

2. How did your business begin?
I've always dreamed of having my own business and being my own boss. Initially, I started doing custom wedding stationery for friends and family while working full time but it was more for the love of it than actually building a business. Being made redundant from my job whilst on maternity leave with my son in 2009 was a scary time but gave me the little push I needed to take Buttercup Ink to the next level and I've never looked back!

3. The bits I love...
Working to my own schedule. I love being able to be at home with my little boy and still do the fun stuff like going for a milkshake and our afternoon trip to the park. I also love working with other creative businesses and brides-to-be on their designs. It's nice to have a one-on-one relationship as opposed to the faceless corporate world.

4. The bits I not-so-love...
Bookkeeping and accounts! I'm sure this is a common complaint amongst people in creative businesses! I'd love nothing more that to spend all day creating new designs but it just doesn't work that way! I'm slowly but surely becoming more organised when it comes to the numbers stuff and paperwork!

5. Any tips for other Clever Mammas?
Where possible, assign a 'work area' if working from home. Even if it's just a small desk with your laptop on it. Whilst the flexibility of working from home is great, it also has it's downsides as you are essentially ALWAYS at work! You need to be able to switch off mentally and be able to relax at home with the family. I've also turned off my email alert and do not receive emails to my phone. When you have to be everybody to your business you don't need the added distraction of the email ping. I find I work so much more effectively when I can focus on one task at a time.

6. Devonshire Tea versus Coffee & Cake???
Coffee and cake - YUM!

Vari, thanks for stopping by Clever Mamma HQ to say Hi. We wish you all the very best with bubs number 2 and would love to hear when your bundle of joy arrives... oooh two Clever Mamma babies are in the midst! So exciting. To sneak a peak at Vari's gorgeous designs head over to the Buttercup Ink listing on the Clever Mamma directory. She has recently added some pre-made template logos for those on a small budget too. Head on over and sneak a peak!
